Rodney Cocks CSM

Humanitarian

2005 VIC Australian of the Year

Rodney Cocks is a true humanitarian. Whilst injured in the bombings in Bali and the Baghdad UN Headquarters, Rodney helped evacuate the injured from unstable and burning buildings, perform trauma first aid and load people for evacuation to hospitals. As an unarmed UN military observer he helped East Timorese villagers return from refugee camps to a new beginning. In Iraq, surface to air missiles were scattered across the country, leaving children to use them as play equipment. Rodney managed the UN demining programmes to remove these missiles so that Iraqi families could reoccupy their homes. At just 28 he is currently serving in a senior role with the UN to restore democracy to war torn Afghanistan, Rodney is a great Australian and an inspiration to others.
