The Senior Australian of the Year category is proudly supported by the Department of  Health.

"A lifetime of experience."

The Senior Australian of the Year Award recognises those Australians aged 65 and over who continue to achieve and contribute. The award commenced in the International Year of Older Persons in 1999.

Sister Anne Gardiner AM, 2017 Senior Australian of the Year

In 1953, as a 22-year-old member of the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Sister Anne Gardiner was asked to move to Bathurst Island to live among the Tiwi people.
