NOMINEES ANNOUNCED FOR 2018 NORTHERN TERRITORY AUSTRALIAN OF THE YEAR AWARDS
Indigenous community leaders, youth and disability advocates, educators, doctors and a race car driver are just some of the nominees for the 2018 Northern Territory Australian of the Year Awards.
The Northern Territory Award nominees announced today are in the running to be named Northern Territory Australian of the Year, Northern Territory Senior Australian of the Year, Northern Territory Young Australian of the Year and Northern Territory’s Local Hero.
The 2018 Northern Territory Award nominees are:

Elizabeth Reid – Disability, community & justice advocate (Darwin)
Dr Bo Reményi – Paediatric cardiologist (Darwin)
Frank Shadforth – Pastoralist & Indigenous mentor (Borroloola)
David Woodroffe – Lawyer & champion of Indigenous justice (Darwin)

Kathy Guthadjaka – Educator & pioneering academic (East Arnhem Land)
Margaret Kemarre Turner OAM – Aboriginal Elder (Alice Springs)
Helen Kempe – Community volunteer (Tennant Creek)
Raymond Stingray Menhinnitt OAM – Community swimming teacher (Darwin)

Bryce Fullwood – Race car driver (Darwin)
Kevin Kadirgamar – Refugee & migration lawyer (Muirhead)

Sarah Brown – Remote area nurse (Alice Springs)

Karan Hayward – Cultural custodian & community builder (Tennant Creek)

Donna Hunter – Anti-drugs campaigner (Darwin)
The Northern Territory Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year and Local Hero Award recipients will be announced on Wednesday 15 November 2017 at the Darwin Convention Centre.
The Northern Territory Award recipients will then join a cohort of 32 State and Territory recipients from around Australia in the national Awards, which will be held in Canberra on 25 January 2018.
Australia Day Council NT Chair, Jeannette Button, said it was an honour to be involved in the Australian of the Year Awards and to learn from such inspirational members of the Territory community.

you have gone beyond the call of duty, have encouraged others and made an enormous contribution to our communities. It has been a pleasure to share your experiences,” said Ms Button.
National Australia Day Council CEO, Ms Jenny Barbour, said the Northern Territory nominees are among 130 great Australians being recognised at the state level in the Australian of the Year Awards.
"The Australian of the Year Awards allow us to recognise and celebrate the achievements of outstanding Australians – people making extraordinary contributions to our society," said Ms Barbour.
“The Northern Territory Award nominees reflect the great communities of the Territory and tell stories of resilience, care, commitment, culture, and achievement.”
