NOMINEES ANNOUNCED FOR 2018 SOUTH AUSTRALIA AUSTRALIAN OF THE YEAR AWARDS

Medical specialists, community champions, artists and anti-violence campaigners are among the nominees for the 2018 South Australia Australian of the Year Awards.

The South Australia Award nominees announced today are in the running to be named South Australia Australian of the Year, South Australia Senior Australian of the Year, South Australia Young Australian of the Year and South Australia Local Hero.

Professor David David AC - Craniofacial surgeon (Adelaide)

Dr Nigel Farrow - Medical research scientist (Adelaide)

Dr Fiona Kerr - Neural and systems complexity specialist (Adelaide)

Nick Jones – Engineer and Renewable Transport Innovator (Adelaide)

Silvio Albert Apponyi – Sculptor (Adelaide Hills)

Peter Combe - Children’s songwriter and entertainer (Glenunga)

Glyn Scott - Domestic violence campaigner (Mount Barker)

Barbara Spriggs - Campaigner to prevent abuse of aged care patients (Bellevue Heights)

Mohammad Al-Khafaji - Refugee and inclusion advocate (Adelaide)

Kyran Dixon - Role model for Indigenous youth (Alberton)

Andrew Costello - Charity founder and community champion (Adelaide)

Neil Davis - Anti-violence educator (Woodcroft)

Kathlene Wilson - Family and children’s support worker (Adelaide)

 

The South Australia Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year and Local Hero Award recipients will be announced on Monday, 30 October 2017 at Adelaide Oval.

The South Australian Award recipients will then join a cohort of 32 State and Territory recipients from around Australia in the national awards, which will be held in Canberra on 25 January 2018.

National Australia Day Council CEO, Ms Jenny Barbour, said the South Australian nominees are among 130 great Australians being recognised at the state level in the Australian of the Year Awards. 

 "The Australian of the Year Awards allow us to recognise and celebrate the achievements of outstanding Australians – people making extraordinary contributions to our society," said Ms Barbour.

 “The South Australian Award nominees are making great contributions to our society and their stories show us how we can all make a difference.”
