The Minister for School Education, Early Childhood and Youth, the Hon Peter Garrett AM MP, is a fan of the Australian of the Year Awards, especially the Award for Young Australian of the Year.

“Young Australians inspire me every day with their positive outlook on life and their fearlessness in aiming high at whatever they set out to do.

I see it all the time – an infectious enthusiasm and a can do attitude that typifies the Aussie approach of having a go.

Last year’s Young Australian of the Year, Marita Cheng, is a perfect example. This remarkable young Australian is passionate about engineering.  So much so she spends much of her time running robotics workshops right across Australia encouraging other young women to consider a career in engineering.

As Marita has found, the Young Australian of the Year Award provides a platform to promote a passion or further a cause.  If you know someone who deserves to be recognised, now is the time to nominate them in the 2013 Awards.”

The Young Australian of the Year Award is supported by the Australian Youth Forum, an initiative of the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.
