 STATEMENT FROM ROSIE BATTY

The 2015 Australian of the Year, Rose Batty, has welcomed today's announcement by the Prime Minister that the formation of a national domestic violence scheme be established and that the issue will be added to the COAG agenda.

"This announcement is a major step towards bringing about change in how domestic violence is dealt with and in keeping people safe, so I am delighted with the Prime Minister's commitment to seek national co-ordination and support," said Ms Batty.

"I look forward to working with the Advisory Panel which is being formed and receiving the terms of reference.  I hope a broad cross section of expert and community representatives will be part of the panel too."
