HIGH ACHIEVERS RECOGNISED FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS IN QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIAN OF THE YEAR AWARDS 2014

Finalists in the Queensland Australian of the Year Awards 2014 include a ballet director, community worker, defensive driving advocate, child protection activist, scientist, Indigenous literacy champion and Paralympic football coach.

The Queensland award finalists for 2014 are:

The Queensland Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year and Local Hero Award recipients will be announced on Wednesday 13 November at the State Library of Queensland.  The Queensland award recipients will then join recipients from all other States and Territories as finalists for the national awards, which will be held on 25 January 2014 in Canberra.

National Australia Day Council CEO, Mr Jeremy Lasek, said the Queensland finalists reflect the wide variety of talents and passions of the people of Queensland.

"The Queensland finalists are inspirational people whose achievements, contributions, dedication and passion are to be admired," said Mr Lasek.

"We are thrilled to be able to recognise and celebrate these great Queenslanders. 

The Commonwealth Bank has been a Major Sponsor of the Australian of the Year Awards for more than 30 years.  Chief Executive Officer, Mr Ian Narev congratulated the Queensland finalists.
