Finalists in the Australian of the Year Awards 2014 for Western Australia include a global poverty campaigner, reconciliation advocate, dancer, youth worker, mental health campaigner and linguist.

The West Australian award finalists for 2014 are:

The Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year and Local Hero Award recipients for Western Australia will be announced on Saturday 9 November 2013 at Government House.  The West Australian award recipients will then join recipients from all other States and Territories as finalists for the national awards, which will be held on 25 January 2014 in Canberra.

National Australia Day Council CEO, Mr Jeremy Lasek, said the West Australian finalists are all doing great things to make the world a better place.

"Tackling global challenges head-on the West Australian finalists are a range of amazing people working in a variety of fields from changing people’s lives on a day-to-day basis to global problems such as polio and poverty," said Mr Lasek.

"Hearing these stories you can’t help being inspired by their work and passion." 

The Commonwealth Bank has been a Major Sponsor of the Australian of the Year Awards for more than 30 years.  Chief Executive Officer Ian Narev congratulated the West Australian finalists.
