Steve GaddTown: Franklin
Musician and mentor
For Steve Gadd, becoming an accomplished musician, composer and teacher was just the start of his passion for Australian music. A full time musician and part time music mentor, Steve has worked tirelessly to preserve and enrich the Tasmanian music industry. He has been the director of the Cygnet Folk Festival, one of Tasmania’s premier cultural events. He is also the co-director of the Tasmanian Heritage Fiddle Ensemble, a group dedicated to the revival of traditional Tasmanian country dance music. As both a composer and a performer, Steve has travelled across Australia with bands and ensembles sharing traditional Tasmanian folk, blues and gypsy music with the country. Steve’s contribution to sharing and preserving Tasmania’s traditional music has also been recorded; he authored and published the Tasmanian Heritage Apple Shed Tune Book, and has released two CDs. He has also written a play, Beneath These Mountains, based on the lives of traditional rural musicians in Tasmania. Steve is a pioneer in Tasmanian musical heritage whose contribution has helped ensure its longevity.
