Rising basketball star
Since taking up his full-time scholarship at the AIS last year, basketballer Patrick Mills has gone from strength to strength both on and off the court. The youngest player chosen for the national team’s training squad for the World Championships in Japan, this Year 12 Lake Ginninderra College student was the only Australian named to participate in the World Hoops tournament in the USA. He also travelled earlier this year to play for a world team against America’s top high school team at the Nike World Hoops Summit. It is the measure of his maturity that he rejected an offer of a US college scholarship so that he could finish school here. Patrick is a member of the Australian Emus team that will contest the Under 19 World Championships next year and he was Basketball Australia’s 2006 Junior Male Player of the Year and NAIDOC’s National Sportsperson of the Year.
