Senior Australian of the Year
2007 SA Senior Australian of the Year Nominee
Aldo Crotti OAMState: South Australia
Aldo Crotti came to Australia more than eighty years ago and followed his father into a small pasta making business. Taking over in the late 1930’s, Aldo built the business, San Remo Pasta, into a major company that employs over 400 people in Adelaide and interstate, with a branch in Italy to handle exports to Europe. Throughout those years, Aldo has been a very generous philanthropist, regularly donating signifi cant funds and food products to such organisations as the Mary Potter Foundation, Drug Arm SA, and Rotary/Foodbank SA, through which he provides a constant supply of premium pasta and noodle products most sought after by the welfare sector. Aldo has also been instrumental in assisting migrants on their arrival, giving them jobs, setting them up in homes, and helping to educate their children. Aldo is a modest man, but he wouldn’t mind people knowing that, now in his mid-eighties, he still works every day.
