Abuse victims' supporter
Liz Mullinar was Australia’s leading casting consultant for more than 25 years – nurturing the likes of Nicole Kidman, Cate Blanchett and Geoffrey Rush – but she gave it all up to help victims of abuse. When, as an adult, she recovered memories of her own childhood abuse, she discovered the support she needed was nowhere to be found. So she sold her house, business and furniture to buy a property in the Hunter Valley where she could care for survivors of childhood trauma. She set up the Heal for Life Foundation and over the past 11 years she has held five-day retreats for more than 4000 survivors. Sixty trained volunteers, also survivors themselves, act as support workers during these retreats. Survivors supporting survivors is a powerful part of the program because it allows the participants to realise that change is possible. Liz now also runs retreats on a property in Queensland and in venues near Melbourne and Bunbury (WA). The programs welcome survivors of all forms of childhood trauma, including abandonment, neglect, and sexual, physical, emotional, spiritual, and ritual abuse. Liz now spends much of her time travelling to other countries to share her knowledge.
