Young Australian of the Year
2010 TAS Young Australian of the Year Nominee
Finegan KruckemeyerTown: West Hobart
At just 28 Finegan Kruckemeyer has already had 35 of his commissioned plays performed around Australia, North America, Asia and Europe, with 19 new works set to have (inter)national seasons. This year he won the 2009 Australian Writers’ Guild (AWGIE) Award for Best Children’s Play in Australia, and came second in the People’s Choice Award for The Tragical Life of Cheeseboy which is currently being turned into a feature film and will be performed on Broadway in 2011. He also won the 2009 Young Tasmanian Artist Award, 2008 Best Childrens’ Theatre Playwright Oscart, 2007 Best Playwright Oscart, 2006 Jill Blewett Playwrights’ Award, and 2002 Colin Thiele Scholarship.
Finegan was one of eight Australian delegates at the 2005 World Interplay, and one of 25 worldwide at the international ASSITEJ Next Generation Conference. He also created the Second Echo Ensemble, Tasmania’s only integrated theatre group, comprising performers with and without intellectual disabilities. His success for someone so young is truly an inspiration.
