Fundraiser for brain cancer

Corporal Matthew Williams is a young Afghanistan Veteran who has devoted his life to fighting brain cancer. Faced with his own diagnosis at the age of 21, he decided to raise funds and awareness for the disease, while undergoing chemotherapy.

Matthew was the driving force behind a fundraising event, which involved flipping a tyre for two kilometres – based on a fitness activity from his army days. He created a GoFundMe page and used his Instagram account to draw attention and support for the event. Thanks to Matthew’s hard work, the Adelaide event exceeded expectations, attracting 400 people and raising $10,000, as well as gaining exposure on national television and radio.

Matthew travelled to Melbourne and Sydney to hold further events, taking responsibility for all of the organisation himself. Thanks to his strength and commitment, there is now an event in every state of Australia, and a few internationally – raising a total of almost $53,000 for the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation.
