Logistics offer and ex-volunteer, Operation Flinders

Operation Flinders is a South Australian not-for-profit organisation that takes at-risk youth bushwalking for a week in the northern Flinders Ranges. Mark Thomas has been involved with Operation Flinders since 1993, shortly after its creation in 1991 by former army offer, Pamela Murray-White.

Mark commits his time and energy to helping provide support and evidence-based outback intervention programs to develop self-esteem, teamwork and responsibility. Starting as a volunteer and now on-staff as the Logistics Manager since 2017, Mark works with disadvantaged young Australians through Operation Flinders, helping them transform their lives.

Big and bearded, Mark is a sensitive and loveable ex-army man, who spends five months of the year at Yankaninna Station. He has led over 300 young people in the field and given 26 years of service – for which he was recognised with the foundation's Chairman's Award. Always up before everyone else and the last to bed every day, Mark's enthusiasm and humour is infectious.
