2018 NSW Young Australian of the Year Nominee
Ben WangState: New South Wales
He may still be at school, but Ben Wang’s inventions are attracting attention around the world. With no previous experience in engineering, Ben has already conceptualised, developed, manufactured, marketed and shipped two inventions, and has others in the pipeline. Ben’s first invention, Perf+, is a wireless electronic prototyping board that simplifies the prototyping process for electronic engineers. So far, more than 8,000 Perf+ boards have been shipped worldwide, enabling engineers to work more efficiently and lowering the barrier from ideas to implementation. Ben’s second invention, RemoteBoot, is a power-saving device that allows people to remotely access their computer’s files and programs while it is powered off. The invention saves energy and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. In 2017, Ben was the youngest exhibitor at the CeBIT Australia technology conference. While he devotes many hours to his projects, Ben also competes in robotics championships, teaches programming to younger students and encourages other young people to embrace their creativity through technological innovation.
