Senior Australian of the Year
2006 QLD Senior Australian of the Year Nominee
Professor Margaret Bullock AMState: Queensland
Professor Bullock's contribution to physiotherapy as a researcher, teacher, and administrator has been outstanding. Margaret was one of the first two students to graduate from the University of Queensland's new fouryear science degree in physiotherapy and occupational therapy. That was in 1955, and Margaret went on to become a pioneer of physiotherapy in many ways, influencing its academic development and raising its professional standards. She was the first in the world to gain a doctorate in physiotherapy and the first in Australia to be appointed as a Professor of Physiotherapy. Her research has been prolific, with her specialty work combining her dual interests of physiotherapy and ergonomics. Possibly no-one has held as many honorary positions in the professions of physiotherapy and ergonomics or had such a sustained influence on either discipline and the standards we now enjoy.
