Vale Marjorie Turbayne
The National Australia Day Council is saddened to hear of the passing of Marjorie Turbayne AO MBE, long-term NADC board member and former president of Australia Day in the National Capital Inc. Mrs Turbayne passed away in Canberra last Friday at the age of 90.
"Mrs Turbayne’s contribution to the nation was impressive and her dedication to the growth of Australia Day and the Australian of the Year Awards is of particular note. Marjorie lead the way as an impressive female achiever and was an incredibly active senior Australian," Warren Pearson, CEO said.
An English migrant Marjorie saw the value of a strong civic life and promoted active citizenship through her work as the first general manager of the National Press Club, through the Australia Day Council and through her many other activities.
“When she had a strong conviction she made it a reality and that was impressive. She had grace and dignity because she was working for the nation and not in her own interest. We will remember her poise, occasional tenacity and her shoes”, said Mr Pearson.
