The 2007 Tour of Honour reaches Emerald and Thuringowa
The theme for the week long tour is Challenging the Norm - Alternative Views of Success, and Tania and Shanaka gave the audience much to think about as they talked of their own experiences and insights.
The Emerald High School students took the opportunity to ask Tania and Shanaka all sorts of questions, asking how they felt receiving such an award, how their family and friends had reacted, as well as questions about their work. There were many budding chefs in the audience looking for advice from Shanaka about opening their own restaurant.
Today, the Tour team boarded a small aircraft for the 1½ hour flight to Thuringowa, near Townsville. At the brand new Riverway Centre, Shanaka and Tania spoke to school students, who were keen to ask the award recipients about how they had maintained their focus and inner strength in order to achieve success.
Both events so far have been fantastic opportunities for students and the award recipients to learn from each other, under the watchful and always entertaining host, Andrew Gill.
Tomorrow, Shanaka and Tania head to Mt Isa to learn more about life in one of Australia's most famous mining communities and participate in events for NAIDOC week, before heading to Cooktown on Friday.
