Suburb named after a legend

2 May 2011

A Perth suburb has been named after motor racing legend and Australian of the Year 1966 Sir Jack Brabham.

The new suburb Brabham is near Caversham, in Perth's northeast, and will take in the Caversham Motor Racing Circuit reserve where Sir Jack raced in the early days of his motor racing career.

Sir Jack, 85, was the first Australian to take out the Formula One World Drivers' Championship in 1959 and went on to win it two more times in 1960 and 1966.

Sir Jack and his wife, Lady Margaret, attended the naming ceremony on Sunday 1 May.
