In November 2015 Catherine McGregor accepted the recognition of Queensland’s 2016 Australian of the Year. She then went on to be honoured as a national finalist on 25 January 2016.
In November 2016 she requested that she reliquinish this honour. This is a matter for her and the National Australia Day Council will not be rescinding the award. However, her request has been noted and the honour roll is being updated to reflect this.
The Australian of the Year awards are all about recognising amazing Australian stories and we believe Catherine’s is a story that deserved to be told and recognised.
We wish Catherine all the very best for the future.
