Professor Patrick McGorry AO, Australian of the Year 2010, will be visiting the Northern Territory next week.
Katrina Fong Lim, Executive Director of the Australia Day Council NT said she is thrilled to host such an inspirational Australian in the Territory.
“Professor McGorry has had a very busy year and it is wonderful that he has been able to spare a few days to visit us.”
His first stop is Darwin on Monday 4 October, where he will visit the NT headspace office. headspace provides mental health support, information and services to young people and their families, and Professor McGorry is a founding board member of this important organisation.
Professor McGorry will then meet students at Darwin Middle School, talk to youth mental health workers and launch a booklet for the Top End Mental Health Consumers Organisation. In the evening, he will attend a reception at Parliament House hosted by the Honourable Kon Vatskalis, Minister for Health, Children and Families, and Child Protection.
On Tuesday 5 October, Professor McGorry will head to Alice Springs to present a workshop to youth and mental health workers, visit an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service and will be the guest speaker at a dinner hosted by the Mental Health Association of Central Australia and the Central Australian Mental Health Service.
