Peter Cosgrove visits the Chatswood Commonwealth Bank branch
Australian of the Year 2001 and former Chief of Defence Force Lt General Peter Cosgrove AC MC visited the Commonwealth Bank in Chatswood today to talk about the importance of the Australian of the Year Awards with staff and customers and to encourage them to nominate others they think worthy of the 2010 awards.
The Australian of the Year Awards is a national program that recognises and rewards the many outstanding Australians that have made a significant contribution to the Australian community. General Cosgrove was awarded the Australian of the Year Award in 2001 for his commitment to the Australian Defence Force and for his sense of courage and duty to all Australians.
Commonwealth Bank Executive Manager, Mr Dale Murray, said the Commonwealth Bank has been the major sponsor of the Australian of the Year Awards since 1979 and he was pleased to welcome General Cosgrove to the Commonwealth Bank in Chatswood.
"Through our sponsorship of the Awards, we are proud to recognise and celebrate the achievements of great Australians who make our nation stronger and we applaud the work General Cosgrove has done for the Australian community," Mr Murray said.
"We are thrilled that General Cosgrove could join us at the Commonwealth Bank today and we are sure he will serve as an inspiration to others to both continue their important work in the community and to recognise others through the Australian of the Year Awards."
General Cosgrove said he was pleased to visit the Commonwealth Bank to speak to staff and customers and that it was important that all members of the community had a say in who should be considered for the Australian of the Year Awards.
"Today has been a great opportunity to meet with Commonwealth Bank staff and customers and to talk about what the award has meant to me," he said.
"I was thrilled to discover I was nominated and then successful in these important awards. This program is open to all Australians and I encourage the community to nominate those they think worthy of the 2010 awards."
Nomination forms can be picked up at any Commonwealth Bank branch or you can nominate here.
Nominations for the 2010 Awards close this Monday, 31 August, 2009.
