ONE WEEK TO GO - BE GREAT AND NOMINATE FOR 2018 AUSTRALIAN OF THE YEAR AWARDS
There’s just one week left in which to have your say on who should be considered for the 2018 Australian of the Year Awards, so submit a nomination for someone you admire at australianoftheyear.org.au before midnight Sunday 6 August 2017.
There are four categories in the Australian of the Year Awards:
Australian of the Year
Senior Australian of the Year (those aged 65 years and over)
Young Australian of the Year (ages 16 to 30)
Australia’s Local Hero
National Australia Day Council CEO Mr Chris Kirby said nominating someone for the Australian of the Year Awards is a way to bring attention to people deserving of recognition, especially those who are often humble about their contributions or achievements.
“Nominating someone for the Australian of the Year Awards is a great thing to do - it can be a thank you for what an individual does in the community or it could completely change someone’s life or bring a lot of attention to a worthy cause,” said Mr Kirby.
“It doesn’t have to be someone you know personally, just someone you admire, and it only takes one nomination for someone to be in the running for the Awards.
“The Awards relies on the public to submit nominations and help find the next Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year and Australia’s Local so now is the time to tell us who you think should be in the running.”
Thousands of individuals are nominated for the Awards each year, with 128 people recognised as State and Territory finalists. Those selected as State and Territory Award recipients go on to be finalists for the national Awards which will be announced on 25 January 2018 in Canberra.
The Commonwealth Bank is proud to have a long-standing partnership with the Australian of the Year Awards.
General Manager of Brand, Sponsorship & Marketing Services, Stuart Tucker, said nominating someone for the Awards was an ideal way to say thanks to friends and colleagues for their efforts and contributions.
“Nominating someone for the Australian of the Year Awards is something everyone can do and it’s a great way to recognise people who often are very humble but make a very big difference to Australian society,” said Mr Tucker.
