NSW Award Recipients Announced

An emergency services volunteer, men's health supporter, a youth leader, an asbestos victims' advocate and one of the world's leading writer-scientists and thinkers were announced last night as the New South Wales recipients in the 2007 Australian of the Year Awards.

The Governor of New South Wales, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, announced the award recipients at a special event at The Art Gallery, congratulating all NSW finalists and nominees in this year's awards program for their outstanding contributions and achievements.

Award recipients are:

Australian of the Year - Dr Tim Flannery
Senior Australian of the Year - Bernie Banton AO
Young Australian of the Year - Iktimal Hage-Ali
Local Hero (Metropolitan) - Michael Stringer OAM
Local Hero (Regional) - Len Wallace
