NOMINEES ANNOUNCED FOR 2018 WESTERN AUSTRALIA AUSTRALIAN OF THE YEAR AWARDS
A medical researcher, a doctor for the homeless, champions for women and seniors, an Aboriginal storyteller, sportspeople using their profile to make a difference and a life-long pillar of the community are among the nominees for the 2018 Western Australia Australian of the Year Awards.
The Western Australia Award nominees announced today are in the running to be named Western Australia Australian of the Year, Western Australia Senior Australian of the Year, Western Australia Young Australian of the Year and Western Australia’s Local Hero.

The Western Australia Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year and Local Hero Award recipients will be announced on Wednesday, 22 November 2017 at Government House in Perth.
The Western Australia Award recipients will then join a cohort of 32 State and Territory recipients from around Australia in the national Awards, which will be held in Canberra on 25 January 2018.
National Australia Day Council CEO, Ms Jenny Barbour, said the Western Australia nominees are among 130 great Australians being recognised at the state level in the Australian of the Year Awards.
"The Australian of the Year Awards allow us to recognise and celebrate the achievements of outstanding Australians – people making extraordinary contributions to our society," said Ms Barbour.
“Through perseverance and commitment, the Western Australia Award nominees provide inspiration for us all.”
