3 September 2009

The National Australia Day Council today announced that nominations for the Australian of the Year Awards 2010 have now closed.

“We have received more than 2500 nominations this year in the categories of Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year and Australia’s Local Hero,” Tam Johnston, National Program Director for the Australian of the Year Awards said.

“Thank you to all those Australians who took the time to nominate someone who makes them proud, as the quality of the nominations we have received is outstanding.”

State and territory selections will be held in the coming month, with state and territory finalists announced throughout November.

“We look forward to sharing the stories of state and territory finalists with Australia later in the year,” Ms Johnston said.
