Maggie Beer Visits the Northern Territory

Senior Australian of the Year 2010, Maggie Beer, will be visiting the NT from 2 to 6 August as part of her national Tour of Honour.

Maggie Beer is an Australian culinary icon. She and her husband, Colin, ran the famed Pheasant Farm Restaurant, before Maggie opened an export kitchen for the production of preservative-free gourmet foods.

In 1999, she opened Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop and went on to co-host the ABC cooking program, The Cook and the Chef.  Maggie Beer hopes that through sharing her love of food she will inspire Australians to reconnect with food and appreciate what we eat.

“Maggie is an inspirational award winner and an outstanding Australia,” said Katrina Fong Lim, Executive Director of the Australia Day Council NT.

“We are honoured that she has agreed to spend some of her very busy award year with us here in the Territory, particularly during Seniors Month.  As Senior Australian of the Year 2010, Maggie has been continuing to inspire Australians across the nation and now it is our turn.”

During her visit to the NT, Maggie will be visiting schools, seniors and community groups.  She will speak at functions in Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, Katherine, Adelaide River, Palmerston and Darwin.  As part of her visit Maggie will be speaking at the NT Library on Friday 6 August at 5:15 pm and the public are welcome to attend.
