Happy Birthday Jessica!
Jessica Watson, Young Australian of the Year 2011, is today celebrating her 18th birthday.
Jessica has had a very full year since completing her voyage sailing solo, non-stop and unassisted around the world, and being named Young Australian of the Year.
In between launching her book, trips overseas, getting her driver’s licence and speaking to thousands of students around the country, she has been working hard at finishing high school.
She is currently studying to complete an intensive course in English and maths so she can complete her year 12 certificate and pursue maritime studies.
"I'm trying desperately to just be a boring student with a life that revolves around classes and homework, but life just doesn't seem to work out like that," she recently blogged.
Another big event on Jessica’s calendar is the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race on Boxing Day. Her and her team are aiming to be the youngest crew to compete in the race to date.
We wish Jessica a very happy birthday.
