GREAT AUSTRALIANS LINE UP FOR AUSTRALIAN OF THE YEAR AWARDS 2012

12 January 2012

On the evening of Wednesday 25 January, on the lawns in front of Parliament House in Canberra, 33 inspiring Australians will stand before the nation. Four of them will be announced as recipients of our greatest peer honours - the Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year and Australia's Local Hero 2012.
Who are the people in contention for the awards?
They are a mix of quiet achievers and well known leaders. They were among almost 3,000 Australians nominated by the public for consideration in the Australian of the Year Awards 2012.
They are volunteers, scientists, civic leaders, advocates, students, philanthropists, artists and caring community members. They come from our cities, the suburbs and our rural areas.
They are everyday Australians and household names.
These are the extraordinary people who will line up for the announcement of the Australian of the Year Awards 2012.
