Frazer joins Hawking in Royal Society rank
Congratulations to Australian of the Year 2006 Professor Ian Frazer for being elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of London alongside the likes of Stephen Hawking and Isaac Newton.
The esteemed 350-year-old scientific academy encompasses the most distinguished scientists from across the world. Professor Frazer’s election acknowledges his work as co-inventor of the cervical cancer vaccine marketed as Gardasil and Cervarix.
He carried out the research while heading the University of Queensland's Diamantina Institute and says his election is also an acknowledgement of the centre's work.
