The finalists for the 2017 Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year and Australia’s Local Hero have been drawn from nominations submitted by the public and recognised as State and Territory Award recipients, with the final round of State Awards announced in Brisbane last night.
National Australia Day Council CEO, Chris Kirby, said the 32 national finalists across four Award categories include educators, community volunteers, scientists, inventors, entrepreneurs and humanitarians.
