Dr Fiona Wood - 5th most trusted Australian
Dr Fiona Wood AM, Western Australian burns surgeon and Australian of the Year 2005 has been voted Australia's most trusted person for the fifth year in a row.
The Perth doctor and mother of six has topped the annual Reader's Digest Trust Survey since its inception in 2005 - the same year she was named Australian of the Year.
Dr Wood pioneered "spray-on skin" for use in treating burns victims and in 2007 assisted with the emergency care of airplane crash victims of the Yogyakarta disaster in Indonesia.
A random sample of 750 Australians were asked who they trusted most and what professions they found to be most trustworthy.
A number of other past Australians of the Year also made the list:
- 3rd - Australian of the Year 2006, Professor Ian Frazer - cancer researcher and scientist
- 4th - Australian of the Year 1994, Ian Kiernan OAM - Clean Up Australia founder
- 24th - Australian of the Year 2008, Lee Kernaghan OAM - country singer
Australian of the Year 2009, Professor Mick Dodson AM is on the list for the first time, at number 64.
