It was great to see The Project's Carrie Bickmore use her TV WEEK Gold Logie acceptance speech to raise awareness of an issue that affects so many people. Nominations for the 2016 Australian of the Year Awards are now open and if you know of someone going above and beyond, give them the recognition they deserve! #beaniesforbraincancer www.australianoftheyear.org.au/nominate Read More →
Australians urged to thank our Local Heroes
A message from Senator Chris Evans, Minister for Immigration and Citizenship
Australia’s Local Hero Award highlights the fact that every Australian has the ability to make a difference in their community.
Right across our nation there are men and women who contribute above and beyond what is expected of them to make life better for others. They excel in bringing people together and strengthening our communities.
We all know someone like this, but their tireless and selfless work in the community often goes unthanked. As Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, I encourage all Australians to take the opportunity to thank these many dedicated individuals by nominating them for the Local Hero Award.
Australia’s Local Hero Award is part of the Australian of the Year Awards and is proudly sponsored by the Australian Government through the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.
The Local Hero Award is a chance for all Australians to recognise the efforts made by a few to better the lives of many more around them.
