5 minutes with Australian’s Local Hero 2010, Ronni Kahn

27 April 2010

We caught up with Ronni Kahn to see how her time as Australia’s Local Hero 2010 is going, here’s what she had to say:

How did it feel to be announced as Australia’s Local Hero 2010 in January?

It was the most exciting and unbelievable thing that could happen. I was thrilled, honoured and humbled to receive the Award.

How has receiving the Award affected your life?

It has changed my life in ways that I could never have imagined. It has raised the profile of OzHarvest tremendously, and as a result the business has grown immensely. For example, our website has received more hits in the last few months than it had in the previous four years!

My personal profile has also risen beyond belief. I feel like I have been talking non-stop since receiving the Award and I have now been taken on by a celebrity speaker’s bureau.

What have you been up to since you received the Award?

I have done countless television and radio interviews, as well as speaking at a number of events.
We have received a great deal of interest from new partners who want to invest in OzHarvest, so business and brand awareness is constantly growing which is keeping me very busy.

What are your plans for the rest of your term as Australia’s Local Hero?

I want to talk as much as possible. My key focuses are growing OzHarvest and fulfilling my role as Australia’s Local Hero 2010 with the key message that an individual can make a difference. People need to know that we all have the potential to give back to our community; we just have to make it happen.

Australia’s Local Hero is generously supported by the Australian Government Department of Immigration and Citizenship. If you know someone who is making a difference in their local community, why not nominate them for the 2011 awards.
