Annie Greig
Dancer and teacher
A life dedicated to dance and performance has taken Annie Greig to stages, festivals and teaching institutions around the world. After beginning her dance training in Launceston, Annie studied contemporary dance in Adelaide with the Australian Dance Theatre before winning a Fulbright scholarship to study at New York University. At this time, Annie also began developing her skills in dance video production. Her creativity and skill was recognised internationally with awards in experimental dance video at the American Dance Film and Video Festival in 1981 and again the following year. Working with internationally acclaimed choreographers Alwin Nikolais and Murray Louis, Annie has used this experience to teach and instil in others a shared passion for dance, performance and video making. Her many dance roles over the years include course director with the National Aboriginal and Islander Skills Development Association, lecturer at the University of Tasmania, President of Ausdance, NSW and National Vice-President of Ausdance, the Australian Dance Council. Annie received an honorary life membership to Ausdance in recognition of her outstanding contribution to dance. For the past 13 years, Annie has been Artistic Director for Tasdance and is also Secretary for the Asia Pacific Performing Arts Network.
