There's just one week to go until nominations for the Australian of the Year Awards 2009 close on
Sunday 31 August 2008.
More than 2400 nominations for Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year and Australia's Local Hero have already been received.
Nominations for the Australian of the Year Awards can be made online at www.australianoftheyear.org.au, or with a nomination form available from major sponsor the Commonwealth Bank or by calling 1300 655 193.
Current Australian of the Year Lee Kernaghan, who has been visiting drought-stricken communities around the nation to lend support to struggling farmers, encouraged all Australians to nominate someone they admire for an award.
"Travelling around the country allows me to meet so many inspiring people who are achieving great things or are quietly contributing to our communities," said Lee.
"We all admire someone for what they do and we all know someone who makes a real difference.
"Nominate them for the Australian of the Year Awards before the deadline next Sunday so they can be considered for recognition."
