LISA CURRY KENNY RECOVERING WELL FROM HEART PROCEDURE

Lisa Curry Kenny AO MBE is recovering well from this morning's surgery to treat the heart condition known as Myocarditis.

Doctors say the procedure to implant a cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) went as planned and Curry Kenny is recovering as well as can be expected. The procedure is part of ongoing treatment which will take considerable time and will involve continued monitoring of the implant and medication to settle the heart's electrical system.

Myocarditis is a condition in which the heart beats irregularly and erratically. Left unchecked, the condition could result in cardiac arrest. Doctors believe Curry Kenny's heart muscle suffered injury from a viral infection which may have been compounded by a rigorous training program.

The 45 year old mother of three is expected to stay in a Brisbane hospital for a few more days before returning to the Sunshine Coast to recuperate at home.

Both Grant and Lisa were very thankful for the many messages of support they had received today from well-wishers.

Ends.
