Damien Leith to become an Australian citizen and perform on the eve of Australia Day 2007

Irish born, Australian Idol Damien Leith is set to become an Australian citizen and will perform on January 25 at the Australia Day Live concert on the lawns of Federation Mall outside Parliament House, Canberra.

Damien Leith says 'My wife Eileen and son Jarvis are both Australian Citizens and this was why we decided we wanted to make this brilliant country our home. Becoming a citizen is completing that process for me. I so want to embrace all the values this country stands for and really commit to be being part of it.'

Damien has this week returned from spending Christmas in Ireland . His first Australian offering The Winners Journey is currently four times platinum and has been at the number one position on the ARIA charts for five consecutive weeks.

Executive producer Julie Ward says 'Australia Day celebrates our diversity and that comes through people making a choice to call our country their home. Damien's decision to share this special moment in his life will be a great opportunity for us all to reflect on what it means to us to be Australian.'

A collaboration from three incredible Australian female vocalists Deborah Conway, Mia Dyson & Kate Miller-Heidke has also been announced today.

They join an already stellar cast of The Whitlams, Guy Sebastian, The Audreys, Sick Puppies, Renee Geyer, Bobby Flynn, TV Rock and the cast of the hit stage show Priscilla Queen of the Desert The Musical.

The recipients of the Australian of The Year Awards: Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year and Australia 's Local Hero, will feature in the program. This ceremony, hosted by Sandra Sully will air on Network Ten on January 26, 2007 at 4.30pm . An extended broadcast of the concert featuring Damien Leith's citizenship ceremony will air on Network Ten on January 28, 2007 at 12noon.
