Queensland Australian of the Year 2007 Finalists Announced
The finalists for the Queensland Australian of the Year 2007 were announced today. Finalists include Queenslanders who have been nominated for their work with youth, indigenous communities, seniors, the arts and the general community.
Ms Tam Johnston, National Manager of the Australian of the Year Awards, said the quality of nominations received this year was outstanding.
"The breadth and diversity of the nominations this year was amazing, truly reflecting the amazing achievements and contributions made by Australians each year," said Ms Johnston.
Queensland finalists are:

Norma McRae, Humanitarian, Mooloolah
Professor David Tudehope, Neonatal pioneer, South Brisbane
QUEENSLAND SENIOR AUSTRALIAN OF THE YEAR
Peter Dornan AM, Prostate cancer innovator, Toowong
Val French AM, Seniors' voice, Wishart
Dr Clem Jones AO, Civic leader, Camp Hill
Moyia O'Brien, Community service founder, New Farm
QUEENSLAND YOUNG AUSTRALIAN OF THE YEAR
Tania Major, 25, Indigenous youth advocate, Cairns
Lars Olsen, 23, Orphans' champion, Hervey Bay
Tim Sharp, 18, Creative artist, Tingalpa
Nicole Stubbs, 23, Medical supporter, Annerley
Recipients of each category as well as the Regional and Metropolitan Local Hero of the Year will be announced the Premier of Queensland, The Honourable Peter Beattie MP, on Thursday, November 16 at the Queensland Awards Ceremony at The Whale Hall, Queensland Museum Plaza at 6:00pm.
Recipients in each category then become national finalists for the Australian of the Year Awards to be announced on the lawns of Parliament House in Canberra on January 25, 2007.
